The Fish That Ran Away

Hello friend!
Reel it in
Pulling the line
It's not much of a fight
Swimming towards me as fast as he can
A joy fills my heart as I hold out my hand
Jump up little one
The night's only begun

I took him home with me
Gave him a name so sweet
I'd sing him lullabies
And hug him when he cried
I took great care of that little fish
He was the answer to my every wish
My end to sadness so alone
I simply knew he was the one

One night as I slept so peaceful in bed
I felt a strange sadness go through my head
When I awoke I found my best friend no more
All to be found was a note on the door
"Good bye my love it seems you're not the one
I'm done with your craziness, I had my fun.
You'll always remember and never quite recover
From the pain that I've caused, a pain like no other.
I'm sorry to do this. I really am."
But I doubt he really meant it with how quickly he ran

I stayed in my little old house for a while
'Till a bird sang to me and forced me to smile
Then I went out again with my hook and my rod
And towards the little lake I so eagerly trod
I sat down silently under a big tree
And this feeling comes suddenly rushing back to me

Hello friend!
Reel it in
Pulling the line
It's not much of a fight
Swimming towards me as fast as he can
A joy fills my heart as I hold out my hand
Jump up to me darling
And whisper sweet nothings

He is the one who was sent from above
He is my angel and he calls me his love
Back to my house we so joyfully ran
He was smiling at me and holding my hand
Could this be it? Could he finally be here?
Could this be my sweetheart, my lover, my dear?
Only time will tell.
Perhaps we'll see.
Maybe this is the one who will stay here with me.
I hope that some day I can finally say
This one who doesn't want to be
My one who sadly got away.
